Description
From the old town of Taninges to the wilderness on the banks of the Giffre, via the Chartreuse de Mélan... A family-friendly walking tour of contemporary art in public spaces.
From the centre of Taninges along the Giffre, this itinerary offers three different perspectives of contemporary art in public spaces:
- “Urban art” in the village.
- The contemporary sculptures in the grounds of the Chartreuse de Mélan (13th century)
- The Art and Nature Trail presents some artworks along the way, creations of ""land art"" and tools to discover local wildlife.
Why has contemporary art been integrated into these public spaces?
Contemporary art is used to describe current art techniques which, especially since the 70s, have changed the way art is expressed, focusing on research and innovation, with a direct link to our modern times. The public space is becoming more and more popular for this type of artistic expression. This trail along the Giffre is particularly unique in that three different forms of art can be seen in succession along the same itinerary.
Contemporary art can sometimes be misunderstood, but it deserves to be appreciated, as long as it is accompanied with the necessary explanations so that everyone can discover and understand it more easily.
With that in mind, walkers on this itinerary will be able to read about each artwork, to be able to fully appreciate them.
