Description

Returning to Annecy in 2006, he set up his studio on the heights of Annecy. A lover of the lake and its mountains, he made a name for himself locally with his ‘LesBleusduLac’ series. Gilles Giacomotti revisits the most beautiful shores and summits.

A singular style

He first worked on parquet floors in New York. On his return to France, Gilles Giacomotti used water-based paints to penetrate the wood and its material. The knots and veins provide a magical backdrop that magnifies the work thanks to the colour that the artist deposits on the surface of the painting. In shades of blue, his favourite colour, he lets us discover the moods of the lake and the mists that veil and reveal the mountain peaks and landscapes in turn. A lake that is sometimes agitated, angry or nostalgic, and other times calm and serene, inviting us to meditate.

A singular act

Painting is above all a gesture that comes from the heart but also from the conscience. It is an act of solidarity that speaks of nature and its environment in a climate context that is threatened and under pressure, questioning our role on this blue planet, the place of humans in its ecosystem and their carbon footprint.
Both contemplative and philosophical, my work attempts to highlight the balance in our relationship with nature.

Your provider

Born in Geneva and originally from Annecy, Gilles Giacomotti graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Dijon in 1987. He moved to the United States in 1994 and began his artistic career in New York, where he created and produced works on parquet flooring.
Returning to Annecy in 2006, he set up his studio in the hills above Annecy le Vieux. A lover of the lake and its mountains, he made a name for himself locally with his series ‘Les Bleus du Lac’. Gilles Giacomotti revisits the most beautiful shores and summits.

His paintings are tinged with intense blues, colours that are dear to the artist and invite us to contemplate. The landscapes are reminiscent of a childhood spent on the shores of Lake Annecy, and reflect the artist's attachment to this colourful town.
