Description

In 1860, the Albygeois Jacques Blanchet created a candle-making workshop in the cellar of an old house in the old town.

Mainly intended for churches and pilgrimage sites, the candles were part of an artisanal expertise that the Blanchet family has continued for more than a century. In this unusual workshop, left in the original state, nothing has changed since it was closed. The magic of the place is revealed through the objects around you: pieces of beeswax and paraffin wax, old copper cauldrons, bins to cool the material, and cotton wicks suspended from frames onto which the hot mixture was poured to form the candle. The Ciergerie is also open on the European Heritage Days.
