Summary

The objective of this course is to learn the fundamentals of ski mountaineering: knowing how to use crampons, ice axes and rope to ensure ski mountaineering and get to safety. Between ridge routes and corridors you will polish your technique and your knowledge on the subject during 3 days rich in exchange and feedback. The Aravis training ground for the big names in the discipline will offer us an incredible playground to evolve on educational and alpine routes.

DAY 1- THE FUNDAMENTALS OF SKI ALPINISM, TECHNICAL BASICS IN SKI Theoretical briefing: Finding the right slope, the right orientation / Choosing your route and schedule / The equipment to plan / Steep incline turns: jumped pedaling, other turns techniques / The importance of sticks. Skidding on a steep slope. Control and adapt your speed. Know your limits and know how to give up. Put on the skis, take off the skis and put on the crampons on a steep slope. Protect yourself and get to safety Cross a ledge or a snowy jump. Use an ice ax on a steep slope DAY 2 - MOUNTAINEERING TECHNIQUES ADAPTED TO SKIING. Theoretical briefing: Choice of slope, orientation, schedule. The material to be provided. Make anchors and relays: Lunule, dead body, ejectable ice ax…. Install an abseil Abseil downhill skiing on the feet Insurance technique when descending with the rope. Counter-insurance of a skier, slope test. Stop a fall Turn around and climb DAY 3 - APPLICATION COURSE. Preparation for the race Application slope of about 200 to 300 m ascent and descent in autonomy De-briefing
