Summary

You want: to know how to read an IGN map, to know how to use your compass, to communicate your geographical coordinates in an emergency, to make the link between the map and the terrain, in order to become autonomous during your hikes, this course is made for you !

Educational objectives - Acquire basic knowledge in cartography and orientation / navigation to be autonomous during field trips Learn to read an IGN map - Learn to use your compass, your altimeter - Plan and organize an itinerary Day 1: Cartography and Orientation Meet at the Glières plateau cross-country ski center at 9 a.m. Presentation of the internship. We will discuss the fundamentals of mapping and orientation through theoretical exercises and practical applications in the field. End of the day around 5 p.m. Day 2: Progress and navigation Meet at the Glières plateau cross-country ski center at 9 a.m. Today we leave for a day hike. This will allow us to tackle the concepts of planning and navigation. The hike (of moderate difficulty, maximum 700m vertical drop for a maximum of 6 hours of walking) will also be an opportunity to test the knowledge acquired on the first day. End of the course around 5 p.m. The theory and most of the course will take place outdoors (depending on weather conditions, we may have to take shelter in a lodge on the plateau to tackle the theoretical part of the course). are calculated from an average speed defined in the hiking difficulty levels sheet. These are indicative times and do not include breaks. The location of the course may have to be slightly modified for safety reasons (weather, level of participants) or for organizational reasons (availability of accommodation) .The outing can be organized on another date for groups already made up of at least 3 people.
